this is so weird...

I took this photo two weeks ago today.
This barn is just down the road for Jody and Andy.
It is HUGE.
And awesome.

A few days ago, on my way out to Jody's house, I was driving towards the barn and saw flames.
And a backhoe KNOCKING IT DOWN.
And then burning the wood in a pile next to it.
I literally screamed a little bit.
And picked up my phone to call Paul...because he LOVES old barns.
He's always wanted to tear one down for the wood.
Then I called Jody and yelled at her through the phone, "THEY ARE TEARING DOWN YOUR BARN AND BURNING IT!!!"
(somehow it had become their barn, i guess. even though it took a total of 3 minutes to take one family photo in front of it.)
So...short story long...Paul couldn't stand it.
On his way home from helping the Landers pack today, he saw a huge pile of wood that still hadn't been burnt.
And he pulled over and asked if he could take some.
They willingly agreed.
He called me to tall me he was planning on "forgoing" his bathroom project so he could sort old barn wood.
Because apparently we need old barn wood.
BAD.
Fortunately I had my camera in my car and I stoppeed by to snap a few photos.
This is the exact spot where the Landers stood for the family photo...

And this is Paul working his butt off trying to pull beams from deep in the pile.
He got 3 10 foot beams and 1 15ft beam.
He was beyond excited.
Pretty sure that today was a little piece of heaven for him.
He was there for 6 hours, brought a load in and then went back for more...which took another 2 hours.
8 hours.
Of hard labor.
And he was smiling from ear to ear.
He should have been a farmer. And I'm not even kidding.
He was born to be a farmer.

So is that crazy or what?
The barn is gone.
The Landers are leaving.
Some sort of crazy metaphor, I'm sure...but I don't have the time to try to figure it out right now.
Heading to bed....with a garage full of old barn wood.

That is so sad...that barn was beautiful. And you are right... there is some type of crazy, coincidental metaphor in there somewhere! Thinking of you today...

Are there nails sticking out of that wood? Is his Tetnus shot current?!? :)

um, weird. I cant believe they took it down. And Im glad Paul didn't fall off the huge pile. And yeah, that's some crazy metaphor there.

Are we sure our men weren't separated at birth?

Only mom would be concerned about the nails in the wood. Put Paul back in his bubble, Cassie! Mom would be much less nervous that way! :)

no idea, courtney. it's in "storage" right now. hoping we get a new house sometime soon and can used it in a big renovation....at least the beams. the barn boards can be used for other FUN things. :)

Oh my gosh! This is totally something Jeremy would have done too! If we were still in IA Paul would have definitely had a helper! ;)

There really doesn't need to be an immediate need for the barn wood. There just needs to be a stash of old barn wood in EVERY man's garage (shed) for the time when the need for the wood should arise. Isn't this obvious?
