Oops...l opened a can of worms!

Ok, I was not criticizing cheerleaders! I just don't have the cheerleader gene in me, so it's uncharted territory for me! Sorry for offending anyone. I had two fairly brash comments on my previous post that I deleted because...well it's me blog, and I can! I was made to feel bad about my post and also even criticized for leading my child to believe people are "inferior beacuse of the activities they choose." I have never told Nalani that I didn't want her to be a cheerleader. Actually, in my email inbox right now I have an application to sign her up for cheerleading camp! I do not view myself as judgemental and actually that is quite offensive to me as well! So I'm sorry anonymous commenters...

Cassie, you are the most NON-judgemental person I know. If a person knows Cassie, they know that about her.
If Lani becomes a cheerleader - she'll be the most cheered, cheerleader out there!

no worries, Cassie. i don't even "know" you and i knew what you meant - that you just hadn't "been there, done that". anyone that really knows you would have known what you meant...

i am right there with you cassie, we have managed to evade cheerleading so far, but i fear in a house full of boys, it is only a matter of time for rylee. maybe we can sit in the stand and cringe and cheer together.

Okay, I am feeling the need to defend Cassie here...
Cassie is pretty much a boy, about as far from a girl as possible as far as her actions go. She just didn't think that cheerleader blood would run through any of her kid's veins because she doesn't have an ounce of cheerleader blood in HER veins...even if she wanted to, trust me, it wouldn't be pretty! :) Ha...sorry Cassie, but it's true! So as far as not WANTING Lani to be a cheerleader, that is not the case. She just doesn't "get" cheerleading and all that goes with it, just like I wouldn't "get" it if my kids wanted to go to a History camp or Debate camp...I don't even think they have those kinds of camps, but you get my point! Ha. I don't know a mother who is more supportive and backs her children in their decisions more than my sister does...for gosh sakes, Brigg has a MOHAWK! Not many mothers would be okay with that! Cassie does not look at anyone as inferior for the decisions they make, in fact, she is quite the opposite. She was just misunderstood and if you really knew her, you wouldn't have misunderstood her!

(by the way, this comment is just for those that misunderstood her!)

Cassie, I feel your pain. Sammy has been asking to join Girl Scouts when she goes to kindergarten... and if she wants to do that, I'm all for supporting her... but Girl Scouts is definitely not my thing. And good for you for being honest & open!! :)

Wow. This has been a rather fascinating dialogue. I was writing my column about mom jeans this week and having read all of your feedback am now a bit nervous about offending people with a seemingly un-delicate, yet delicate topic. Hmmm. Anyway, love your blog. Hope you've had fun baking this week!!
