House stuff

Anybody who has been to our house knows about our porch.
We always say it looks like the porch is falling off.
Our house is 100 years old.
The front column has been this way for decades.
But it has been a problem for all of our potential buyers.
So a few weeks ago we finally found someone who was willing to give us an estimate and take a shot at fixing it. He's the third person we've had look at it. And the only willing party.
He and one other guy worked on it for 5 days.
Basically took the whole thing apart, jacked it up and poured a new footing.
The top column part weighs about 400 pounds.
I kid you not.
It looked like this half way through and I was fairly scared.

But he did it.
And now it is all put back together and looks great.
NOW, he has to do the one on the other side of the porch.
He loves us.
HA!
He has referred to this job several times as a "nightmare".
But the second time around he has a new plan and a lot more confidence.
and TONS more experience! :)

So with our new "porch restructure" and a price reduction, our realtor suggested we "re-market" our house and put it on the realtors tour again. It has been nearly 6 months, so we agreed.
The tour was today.
We had several realtors come through again and say what a drastic difference the porch reconstruction made.
Unfortunately, I don't think any of those realtors are in the market for a "new" 100 year old home!

We're hoping we get some more activity now that this is finished.
We'll see.
The whole real estate game is beyond frustrating.
ugh....
